I am back from the dead!  At least that is how it feels right now.  It has been an overwhelming few weeks as we get DVD's out the door, conduct OneLights from the East to the West, and finish the studio build out. For those who have been around on the OneLight Forum you probably have noticed the insane amount of spam that was taking over.  We've gotten it cleaned out and have changed the registration process for new users.  Hopefully that will take care of the spam issue. Who is heading to NYC next week for Photo Plus?  I'll be up there with the entire OneLight / UsedFilm crew this year.  I'm looking forward to Jason Groupp's annual party.  What other parties should I be aware of? Are you hot for Apple?  Are you hot for the new MacBook Pro?  I have been waiting for a laptop upgrade for a few months now and I just got my hands on the new MacBook Pro with the multi-touch pad today.  I have been doing ok on my MacBook until I'm conducting a workshop and trying to run a flat screen, Lightroom, and PhotoShop. As soon as Steve Jobs announced that they would be available today in the stores (via his media event yesterday) I got on the horn to my local Apple business rep and secured a spot in line. I'll put more of a formal review up later.  I'll just say it is by far the greatest computer I've owned.  By. Far.  And no... I don't mind the glossy screen at all.  I know some are not happy that a matte finish screen is not available for this machine but dang it all... After the first test run of images through Lightroom I have zero complaints.  Zero. It is so fresh off the line that when I registered it online today, I got an email from Apple thanking me for registering my iPod Touch. Nice. I hope you are all doing well.  The DVD is in stock and shipping all week while we are still in town.  The price jumps to $250 in the morning!  Get on it!  We will not be shipping next week since we will all be in NYC for workshops and Photo Plus.  We will resume shipping after we get back on the 27th. I'll be resuming regular blogging by the second week of November. Between the buildout, new branding, workshops, shoots, and time with my family, the blog has had to take a break for a few weeks. Be sure to use an RSS reader so you'll know when the posts start up again. Please check in with me in the comments. Let me know what's keeping you busy these days! Cheers, Zack

  1. I played with the new lappys today and I will definitely be picking one up. I love the form factor and portability of the MacBook–and having a good graphics card will definitely close the performance gap. That’ll become more and more an issue for us with Snow Leopard (and Grand Central) and CS4–both of which depend on the GPU more.

The attention to detail and process is amazing in this iteration. I think it’s been kind of funny how much backlash there has been about the price–as if the only difference between a BMW and a Chevy is that the BMW “costs more.” They really care about the little things, and that’s why I love it.

  2. I’m thinking about selling my Macbook Pro and getting the new one. They look super sweet sweet. Can’t wait for your review!

  3. I tried to sign up for the OneLight Forum but couldn’t because it kept asking for a referrer’s name. I put in yours and that wasn’t good enough?

  4. my MBP is 3 or so yrs old now. the screen’s gettin pretty dim :( yo quiero l.e.d. display

  5. Mi quiero LED display A LOT. It’s so freaking bright that I need to turn it down a few notches. I’ve yet to get my Monaco puck on it to calibrate it.

Natively it is gorgeous right out of the box. Very sharp. And no warm up period. It is just “on”.

I’m upgrading my Adobe products this week as well. So far this machine screams through Lightroom.

The track pad is going to take some getting used to. I’m still going between the new MBP and my old MB. Translating between the two track pads is confusing. All that to say, I prefer this new track pad. It will just take some getting used to. 4 finger swipe is cool.

    Cheers,
    Zack

  6. i’ve been learning how to be a dad. we are in the adoption process, and the baby was born in Nashville two weeks ago. it’s been awesome. long nights with no sleep. good times…i wouldn’t change anything.

  7. Ah heck … another piece of kit I need (or should I say want :o )

Must admit though they do look pretty sweet.

    Cheers,
    Glyn

  9. I look forward to seeing you at Jason Groupp’s annual party.

  10. Hey,

It might be off topic but I have been wanting to upgrade my 17′ powerbook. Any news on a 17′ macbook pro?

  11. The 17″ will be getting an upgrade as well. Much along the same lines as the 15″. I just have not heard when that will be coming down the pipe.

    Cheers,
    Zack

  12. Hey Zack. I’ve been stalking this blog and your flickr account to see when you might post some images from the KC workshop. I especially want to see your “Alice at the Edge of the Earth” shot. That was the bomb-diggity!!!!

Good luck with the studio, it will be so worth the hard work in the end.

  13. Hey Zack!

It was great to meet you in KC at the OneLight. You are every bit as radtastic as I thought! :)

Peace and love from the Nebraska gal! ;)

  14. Zack I will be in africa on all of next week – wanted to finally meet you at pdn (I live in NJ) but I will someday until then. Thanks for the One Light guy

  15. To pair up with my imac, yes, I’m hot for Apple even more!

  16. Are you presenting at PhotoPlus or just hanging out? I’m up there all weekend long, would love to drop by say hi.

  17. I was up til 2 am watching my newly arrived DVD. It rocks the world! I stopped in several spots to set up and shoot. No DVD or book or magazine ever made me do that before. Thanks for all the cool freebies that came, too. It is so nice to get way, way more value than what you paid for these days. I am looking forward to a One Light Seminar in 2009.
