I’m pretty stoked about a new project that Chase Jarvis has been working on for the past year. Chase has teamed up with the good folks at CreativeTechs to create a portal called CreativeLIVE. CreativeLIVE is bringing free education to us! Here’s the breakdown of how it works… You check out the schedule on the CreativeLIVE web site. You see a class you want to take and simply log on to http://www.creativeLIVE.com/live when that class is taking place and you get it for free. There aren’t just photography classes though. You’ll be seeing more classes about other creative and technical disciplines as well. Painting, video, programing, etc. The classes will be available for download after the class has completed. There will be a charge for the download. That’s how they are going to be able to offset the cost of doing it live for free. I’m going to be teaching a studio lighting class. White seamless and beyond. Models, bands, etc. In order to maximize this for as many people as possible to see it live and for free I will be teaching the class over a weekend. Probably about six hours of live training with live Q&A and critique. I’ll be announcing the date here, twitter, and FB once we finalize the date. I don’t do very well speaking straight to a camera so I’ll be doing some sort of twitter something or another looking for five people to come to the class, in person, for free. I do better if I have some real people to interact with but I’ll make damn sure that the viewer’s perspective isn’t just one of a camera on sticks in the back of a standard workshop. More details on that once we nail down the date. Since this is a new venture they would love to hear from y’all about what kind of classes you would like to see offered. If you have some ideas drop them in the comment box here. Who else would you like to see teach? Let me know and I’ll pass it all along to the folks running this venture. What really excites me about that project is the fact that you are going to be there! (well, that and that is going to be free) I really can’t wait to see your workshop!
May I make a little requiest? Obviosly your (one) lighting is amazing, but can you cover posing the model a little bit? I’d love that.
Who else should be there? Joe McNally comes to mind, and David Hobby too. But man, you are really the best.

I was very excited when CJ dropped your name on Wednesday as being an instructor. Short of you coming to Omaha, NE to do a OneLight (HINT, HINT) getting to see you on CreativeLIVE will be awesome.
I think one person folks would love to see there would be David Hobby. Light a fire under strobist’s butt for us, huh?
I, for one, would also love to see someone on there dropping business/marketing bombs…
Zack, where do we start? I think you guys are covering a vast majority of topics to start with. I personally can’t wait for yours to be announced. Some of my favorite photographers are already in this mix (David DuChemin, Art Wolfe, and of course YOU).
I want to thank you for continuing to give back to the community. BTW – Are you going to be in town (ATL) the first week of May?
Zack, can’t wait for that class to start…just have one request…in your OneLight workshop you mentioned the factors to take into consideration when using flashes, but you didn’t mention the zoom factor of the speedlight head…would appreciate it if you can talk a bit about this factor and how it affects the light.

Posing
No one ever talks about this. I’d like to know about posing regular people, especially someone who doesn’t like being in front of the camera, angles that slim the face etc.
Stuff that is useful for taking portraits of regular Joe’s, not models.
P.S. Whatever you do, your class is going to rock!

Can’t think of subjects just now, but I am sure it will come to me.
I LOVE this idea. I watched the live webcast with Chase announced this just in awe of it. As far as subjects go, I think the most important class would be subject/model interaction. How to interact and direct your subject. You obviously don’t treat a family photo the same way you treat a model shoot. I think that would be VERY valuable.
I would like to second the posing! I have your DVD set and it’s fantastic! I don’t see you do a lot of the posing in the videos but I am willing to bet you do a good amount at other times and I’m sure you have thoughts and opinions on the subject that are worth hearing. Thanks!
What a fantastic project – and great idea to try and make it more than a class with a camera in the back of the room.
Speaking about suggestions: I know that it’s not your main body of work, but I keep fallinig in love with the beautiful wedding pictures you and Marc Climie take. I am curious about your ways of dealing with on/off camera light in these fast paced situations.
Doesn’t quite fit with the “posing” suggested above, does it? I would be curious about that too, though.
Firstly, love the initiative.
Second, keeping fingers crossed I can follow the lighting course live.
Last but not least, idea for another course: B&W workflow? I love your B&W stuff
God bless you Zack! Have a day job disqualifies me (and oh so many others) from these free online classes and webinars so many times because the people holding them have a habit of doing them on the weekdays

Hey Zack great post I think I look at this site every other day just for more info about your great projects. I would love to be one of the few chosen for the class you will teach. I am located in Florida and ATL is a short drive for the knowledge you would give to me to improve my photography.

Love this idea, I will be tuning in from Perth, Western Australia. In desperate need of some lighting technique and very hard to find a suitable course over here that caters for a professional looking to update. Like others I too am very interested in how you work in B&W. Can’t wait… better sort out the time change first??!!
