wedding photography by Climie + Co - www.climie.com

It is a very rare occurrence for me to head out and shoot a wedding without Marc.  Yesterday was one of those rare days.  Kevin and Cortney had an amazing wedding yesterday afternoon at Park Tavern here in Atlanta. I met them earlier this year and they really wanted me to shoot their wedding.

There are several more photographs after the jump including the best recessional photo I’ve probably ever taken! Oh, and can I just tell you how much I love the D3? OMGosh. I love this camera.

  1. This is crazy. I was at the same salon with my bride yesterday. What time were you there?

  2. Ha! 9:00am – 10am. I was driving to Park Tavern the same time Chris was twittering that ya’ll were getting ready to head out to shoot ya’lls gig of the day. I was done at 4pm!

How was your day? Get stuck in that rain at all?

    Cheers,
    Zack

  3. what’s good Zack!? Love the pics, I know they enjoyed their day even more. What lens you got on that D3 for the wedding? I can’t wait to get my hands on one and that OneLight DVD.
    Easy

  4. Hey Gino,
    My typical lens selection at a wedding is a 24mm 2.8, a 35mm 2, and I go between an 85mm 1.8 or 105mm 2.

During the ceremony I shoot with an 80-200 2.8 for the reach. That’s about the only time I pull that lens out these days.

    Cheers,
    Zack

  5. Beautiful work Zack! I am nervously shooting my first wedding in Scotland, of all places, in 4 weeks. Your work is an inspiration, as always…

  6. i love these shots man. his skip is awesome. thanks for sharing.

  7. Daaaaang! Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful job. You are my fave. Seriously, dang.

  8. MAN! These are awe inspiring! You are my idol! ;) Just awesome!

  9. Zarias:
You are a flippin’ photography beast. How the heck did you capture a tear in the eye of the dad who was toasting, through a tiny crack between the bride and groom?

    We’re not worthy.
    Chris

  10. OUTSTANDING!!! I LOVE the recesssional!

  11. Zack.

moneyriffic stuff, friend. the all too rare solo Zack wedding stuff is a treat for us all. But most importantly… you have fun?

    I hope so.

  12. Beautiful. Outstanding images throughout. The cake shot is classic!

  13. Dang sweet! Love those sly captures you got (tear in the toaster, cake smoosh). You rock :)

  14. 11 – 1 at the salon. We had the formals and wedding inside at the time of rain….beautiful pictures at the swan house before and after. Worked out perfectly! Glad you had a great day. Mid day light at Park Tavern works beautifully!

  15. Brilliant! Brilliant! I can’t wait to learn from you at the November workshop. Love these shots.

  16. Amazin’ stuff Zack!! :)

  17. I love the shot of the old man signing the photo! So many great shots. Is it not restricting shooting with a fixed lens at this type of event?

  18. Very cool. That D3 is awesome. Good compositions.
    Thanks for sharing.

  19. Levi… The best zoom you own is your feet! :)

I don’t find prime lenses to be restricting whatsoever. In fact, I find them to be superior to zoom lenses. They are faster in aperture. They are lighter in weight. They are cheaper in cost. A number of these shots in this blog post were made with me holding the camera out and away from my face. The heavier the lens on my camera, the more difficult those are to capture. Once you get to know your lenses you can pre-visualize the shot even before you look through the view finder.

  20. fab-u-lous!!! stunning bride, handsome groom, and ZACK! you find (or make) the most amazing light. superb!

  21. Great shots Zack, particularly the bw with bride in tears and groom and dad hugging behind, nicely done!

Marcos; Where in Scotland are you shooting your wedding? Scotlands where I am!

  22. Great Shots Zack, i have my first wedding in Novemeber and am soaking up wedding tips like a fool. Thanks for sharing your lenses. Can’t wait for the DVD. :)

  23. A profoundly impressive and inspirational set of photographs. The expressions, the body language, the feeling of these are palpable. Just plain killer work from stem to stern.

  24. Wow! These are great. It was an awesome wedding and it looks like you guys have some great memories captured on film.

  25. Zack! These are fantastic!!!

BTW – I Concur on the D3 feelings. OMG this camera is incredible. The colors are amazing.

Can’t wait to get the DVD too!

  26. Thanks for the insight Zack. I don’t mind getting really close for photos. In fact I like going to small concerts that I can put my camera right in the band members faces.

  27. Zack-

    Cheers.

  28. the hype did not disappoint – that is a KILLER recessional capture!

  29. Zack – yes, the recessional shot is fab but I truly love the bride + cake shot – that made me chuckle…

  30. Greetings from Australia! Love the work.

Recessional shot?? Is that an American term? We don’t use that term here. Which shot does it refer to?
By the way….loved the info on the all white studio work from the other week.
Keep up the work….happy days and good shooting!! cheers

  31. Hey Bill. The recessional shot is the bride and groom coming down the isle after they have done been hitched up and married! :)

    Cheers,
    Zack

  32. Cheers buddy! great stuff

  33. IAN – Shooting just outside of Glasgow I believe.

  34. What amazes me is the lighting effect.Do you carry a bunch of lights along to church and the reception or do you make use of speedlights only like the strobist fans? WHY don’t I get the same effects you do? Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge. Please keep it up.

  35. im speechless.. amazing stuff! ;)

  36. Quel beau couple !!!

  37. Hi Zack, these are great shots, I love the consistency of lighting in all of them. I have been thinking of switching to primes, but I’d like to know how you do it to switch between lenses at a wedding? or are you shooting with multiple cameras? Thanx for your inputs.

  38. Great photos! Thanks the inspiration! I’d love to hear more about the lighting and equipment you used, if you have a couple of spare minutes… :)

  39. Zach,
I loved your workshop. You are a master!

I was about to buy the new Canon 5d, but I dont’ think the sync speed goes higher than 1/160 second. Is this prohibitive? (I know you hover around 1/250 a lot.) I want to upgrade my 30d though, suggestions?
