This is the live blog post from my creativeLIVE class going on right now. I’ll be updating this through the weekend. You can watch it live here.
Here is the Home Depot tag for the shiny tile board stuff I’ll be using on the white seamless. I typically can find this stuff at Home Depot and Lowes in the paneling or bath section.

Find the list of gear I’m using via this link.
See more images after the jump…

Impromptu “family” photo after the class…

More blogging and photos to come in this post through the weekend.
Send questions to us via twitter with the #AskZack or in the creativeLIVE chat room. I would not suggest sending questions via the comments on this blog post as we are not going to be monitoring this as close as we are the Twitter and chat room feed… but feel free to leave comments all the same. Ok, I’m being called on set. More to come.
Cheers,
Zack
My Twitter has technical difficulties and I cannot tweet. So is there any other way to enter the weekend contests?
Debbi
It is kinda cool watching you blogging at CreativeLive and reading the post here.
Thank you for doing the class Zack!
Michal
It’s fun to see the twitter messages like they were at Utah Photocamp!
Awesome job so far Zack!! Looking foward to todays class. Thanks for all your are doing.
Brad
Thank You Zack!
Hey Zack,
Do you think speedlights will work for white seamless set up, if you crank the iso up to 400 (or more) to get proper exposures ????? Thanks in advance, you’re da man
Watched yesterday – will be glued to the screen today, and tomorrow as well. Thanks again for sharing your invaluable knowledge. If you ever come to my area in Florida, I’ll have a cold Oat Soda waiting.
By proper exposures I mean burn the background decently…
Like the technics 1200′s shirt as well.
Thank you Zack for this creative live, watching it from France from 7:00pm to 3:00am ! Sleeping is boring while you are teaching so good !
Zack…you’re generosity is appreciated more than you will know. TY for helping me grow as a photographer.
Zack,
This is a killer Workshop! Congrats on putting it all together.
Best wishes to you and the family,
Glyn

SPREAD THE KNOWLEDGE HOLMES!
zack and everybody at creativelive, this show is a fantastic treat – it’s quality and great content. thanks for making it possible, thanks for sharing and thanks for making learning so much fun (plus: for free!!!).
Talk a little about Butterfly, Loop, Rembrandt, Split, & Rim, and where short, broad, modified butterfly, and broad rembrandt fit in. Thanks
Zack- Thanks for sharing your lessons learned- saves us all a lot of time, money, and headaches. Great Workshop- I pre-ordered the creativelive download.
Zack thank you so much for sharing this quality information. You’re a amazing teacher.
Zack & Creative Live Team, Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to present this workshop. A great way to refresh on all of the info that I knew once upon a time and pick up some new stuff too! Thanks guys!!!
Thanks a million….you are great…!!!
Thank you for all of your time and sharing all of your knowledge this weekend. I’m just a hobbyist but I have learned so much from you in just the 1 & 1/2 days so far. I am looking forward to the rest of the workshop.
Zack,
Your workshop has been a blast and full of insight. Thanks for everything!
Cheers for all the work you and the guy’s have put into the creativelive stuff. It’s genuinely more informative than 2 years at university has been.
Thank you Zack for sharing this with all of us. Not only am i learning a lot but you are also very inspiring to watch. Thanks a bunch =)
Zack, you are the best thing that happen so far this weekend! Keep up the good work; I never learned that much in only a few days!
Can’t thank you enough for putting together such an amazing workshop. You have a great presence and a clear way of explaining yourself which I know we will benefit from. Thanks for sharing your joy!
Michelle and Sean from Phoenix,AZ
Thank you for sharing your talents. I’m learning so very much and am truly appreciative of all that you’re doing. As a stay at home (homeschooling) mom, finances make it difficult to attend such workshops. I’m actually understanding everything you’re teaching!
Awesome workshop, love how you started from scratch and grew from that!
Best thing bout you are your ethics!
You’re an amazing human being & a GREAT photographer!
This has been great knowledge! Thank you so much Zack!!
I know you teach because you love it and you care about photographers, but seriously…. Huge thanks.
Zack thank you so much for sharing what has taken you years to learn. I cant wait to be able to use all the information I’m learning. Will be taking your onelight class when the funds allow me to.
duuuude. thanks so much for devoting so much of your time and life to teaching. you’re like the four years of photography school i never had
Zack – that was the best explanation I’ve ever seen of white seamless. Thanks!
BTW – I nearly have a bachelor’s in elementary education and my wife’s a K-12 teacher – I have a lot of experience studying pedagogy and watching it in action. You, sir, are a good teacher!
Hi Zack.
Thank you for all the work you put in this workshop! CreativeLIVE is one of the most interesting projects I’ve heard of in the last few month. And it’s even cooler that great people like you are willing to teach the whole world! So please never give up your attitude and your way of teaching. Thats what makes it so authentic!
All the best from Germany
Niklas
Thanks Zack, very nice!
Yepp. You rock Zack
Thanks so much for all of this great knowledge. It really makes me want to become proficient at lighting so that I can spread the ideas/knowledge to other photographers. You’re doing great! I know you’re a bit nervous about the shooting, but it looks great. Yesterday’s “theory” taught me more in 30 minutes than I had learned about lighting in almost a year. Keep it up!
Thanks for all the wonderful free quality information. The workshop has been spectacular
Than you very much for that incredibly inspiring weekend.
Thank you Zack and everyone at creativelive.com I have been glued to my monitor since yesterday absorbing all the quality of information you have provided in this workshop. Kudos to you all!
What an amazing workshop! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I enjoy the way you teach and make it so much fun to learn. I have learned so much this weekend. Thank you for giving back.
I’m so glad you exist, and if we can ever lift this silly ban on cloning, I think we can fill that sore void created by the fact that you are just ONE PERSON.
P.S. Come to New Orleans, and I’ll keep you swimmin’ in Oat Soda.
Zack you rock! I have been learning so much over the last few days! You are a great teacher! keep up the good work!
Zack, thank you so very much for sharing all this much information with the world! The workshop has been great and can’t get enough of it. It’s just awesome stuff. I’m thinking about having my own studio and this workshop has been priceless for me. I hope to one day to get to cross paths and work together. Again, thank you so much for your time and sharing of your knowledge.
Educational and entertaining! Great job Zack, appreciate the hard work by you and the creativeLIVE team.
Hey Zack, thanks for the lighting workshop; great stuff so far…

Zack thank you sooooo much for sharing your knowledge with the world! God has and will continue to bless you.
Thanks Zack, if it weren’t for this i probably wouldn’t have had this opportunity (i live in the *ss of the world). I like you personally now man, i mean i would host you in my house or go out for beers any day. Thanks.
Great workshop, I’m learning a tons. It’s amazing that this is available for free. $129 is a great price for this kind of great content. I look forward to putting all of this into practice.
Zack – your knowledge is amazing and your passion is inspiring… Thank you so much for sharing!
Zack – loving the show on CreativeLive! I’ve been shooting on white seemless for a few months now and you, in a very short period of time, have put to bed more than a few things I was either wondering about or had no idea I was doing wrong. Brilliant! (and very much appreciated) Keep up the great work. Hello from Ireland – there’s a guinness on standby for you in Belfast, David
Zack and everyone at creativelive,
This kicks ass!! Thank you so much for your hard work.
What an amazing opportunity for all of us to watch
you work your magic.
Cheers!!
Dan
Zack your teaching style is awesome. Thank you for all you do for the photo community.
Had to get up at a really early time here in Australia to watch this workshop…it has/is one of the most worthwhile events i’ve seen to date- the information has been well disseminated on every level. Zack is now my hero!!
Thanks for sharing I am glued to the web stream….
hey zack
greetings from germany … we really appreciate what you and the crew of creativelive are doing back there … even its late at night back here … i do learn a lot even watching you handle light and the model and stuff … really great
cheers
Michael from Germany
Zack, this workshop is great! I am learning so much! Thanks
The nine hour time difference to Norway is a bit rough, though…
watching your workshop from Zurich in Switzerland makes me feel more safe with what I do or try. Great workshop, very useful, thanks a lot for that.
Zack – thank you so much for doing this workshop with Creative Live. Your knowledge and experience is wonderful, but you are able to share it very well with your excellent teaching style.
I will definitely be attending one of your workshops in the future once I have the budget for them. I can’t think of anywhere else I would like to spend education dollars with now.
Joe McNally is also my favorite photographer at the moment. You just moved into number two spot, far above the rest. You almost made it up to number 1 because you are a Newcastle drinker, but Joe is a New Yorker, so he keeps the first spot.
Thanks again so much! Keep up the great work!

Great workshop!!
Hi Zack – Just wanted to say thanks for doing the Creative gig this weekend. Seeing more of your workflow is a real treat, so thank you for sharing! Looking forward to seeing you in the Uk later this year – still coming right?

This is amazing. Thank you so much, Zack. Your generosity is a real blessing, thank you, thank you, thank you.
Hey Zack, thanks so much for putting this on! (And your crew too!) The information is priceless!
Inspirational, Motivational, Educational, and so much more. Your presentation style is refreshing and hits home. I’ll be buying the course and in no small part to your willingness to “put it out there” for free! I sincerely hope this whole concept works, the quality of instruction is excellent. John Greengo also rocked so don’t pick on him too much on his video camera skills LOL. Thanks, Zack
The workshops have been amazing so far – I just wanted to say thank you!
Zack and Co. This is really great stuff… fills the space between the photo101 and the onelight. I feel like i decided to make the shift at just the right time with Chase Jarvis, Jeremy Cowart, Yourself, David Hobby, McNally, Kelby… etc. sharing so much… THANK YOU! All the best and see y’all in Pitt!
Huge thanks for doing this Creative Live workshop. You teach the technical stuff in a way that makes sense!!
Hi Zack,
Can’t thank you enough for getting this together with CreativeLive. Just what I was looking for to orient to stepping beyond available.
Zack many thanks for this fantastic workshop and for giving up your time. Its awesome

Hey Zack, just wanted to thank you and your awesome crew for giving us the opportunity to learn from you this weekend. your honest, no b/s delivery of information is so refreshing.
Dude, you have no idea how much i appreciate what you are doing here. along with chase and the rest of the CL crew, you guys are an inspiration.
seriously. thank you so much.
Zack – Thank you very much for doing this program. I have learned a bunch and my photography is better for it….
Couldn’t get Susan to ask you what is the difference between the quality of light on the 86 inch umbrella and the 7 (86in) foot Westcott octo. The price must be worth the light, but they are so similar in shape???
thx for a wonderful saturday workshop!!!!
debbi
Been watching live all night from Sydney, thank you man, what you are doing is great and very professionally managed.

Thanks for the lesson Zack!
This is a great Workshop!
thank you
Zack, you rock. Thanks for today and see you tomorrow!!
Zack, I’ve been shooting on the white seamless since your tutorials were posted 2 years ago. And yet, the instruction via video has still taught me even more! You’ve solved problems that I didn’t realize had such a simple, easy solution. Great work.
Zach – thank you so much! Missed some bits, but I’ve pre-ordered the downloads. Everything you’ve taught so far is completely priceless. Amazing to be ‘on set’ with you. Anyone just starting in photography or is interested in studio work, check it out live —> http://bit.ly/zariasphoto (until June 13′th, 2010 of course)
This is the best free workshop I have ever seen online! Thank you so much Zack for taking the time!

Great stuff at Creativelive.com. Thanks Zack for sharing.
Really appreciate you sharing your valuable time and insights with the world!! It’s been a fantastic workshop, Zack.
Wow Zack! i planned on just tuning in for an hour or two and ended up being glued the entire class and taking almost 10 pages of notes. It’s 4:30am here in Paris, France, but I won’t go to bed until today’s session is over. Thanks so much Zack and all the good people at CreativeLive for those live sessions.
The sign of a great man is his willingness to share. Thank you so much or sharing your knowledge with us. Also, please thank your family for their sacrifice on our behalf.
You rock Zack!!!!!!!!!!!
Your creativeLIVE workshop is AWESOME! Your really kill it for 8 straight hours.. Looking forward for your next workshop.. lot of thanks from Australia
Zack, this live workshop has been simply amazing so far! Thanks SO much for taking the time to do this, as well as your family/crew helping and the creativeLIVE team.

Hope to meet you one day!
great classes with you!! good job as usual!!
thank you!!
Thanks for a great class! I’m even learning from the stuff that’s review for me!
Zack, you are a great inspiration to me. Thank you so much for making this workshop happen and letting us small people know your “secrets” and all of it for free. Best wishes from Minnesota!!!
Thanks Zack…that was a Saturday on the internet-couch well spent
By the way, the name of the tethering Software you couldn’t remember is probably “Sofortbild”. Free and works like a charm for my Nikons.
Your class covered so much! Thank you!
I can’t for the life of me find the white panel board online at home depot. Can anybody help me out with a link?
Hey Zack,
great stuff. head like a kite were great too… the audio mix wasn’t great on the live feed… an ambient mic might have been better to stream. but awesome job on the first two days. you rock.
Thanks Zack
Fantastic workshop so far, Zack! Can´t wait for tomorrow.
Everything is excellent. I was a bit concerned about the webcasting quality before the start but they are extremely competent, we feel like we are there.
Congratulations and thank you for everything.
I’ve learned so much from the workshop today! Thank you for all of the invaluable information you’ve provided. Your passion for what you do really shows. Truly inspiring!
This is simply an awesome workshop.
I will apply what I learned from here to my photography.
Thanks!
Great workshop. But the band at the was below everything I ever listened to. Horrible.
Zack is impressive what you do, thanks for giving the knowledge and the inspiration. Thanks for sharing, what goes around comes around.
I went to dinner at the wrong time! I missed Hawke as a model!!!
Thx for this awesome seminar, like always your workshops really bust my enthusiasm for photography, I can’t wait for tomorrow
Thank you so much for everything this weekend Zack!
It’s been fun.
Keep shooting and teaching, you really are an encouragement to others.
I’ve learned a lot from you in the last year and a half since the time I first found your white seamless tutorial, to getting your OneLight DVD last year, to this workshop now.
This weekend has definitely been icing on the cake of knowledge.
I’m also now enjoying passing what I’ve learned from you on to others.
God bless you man.
tim
This is an AMAZING workshop hank, loving your down to earth approach, quick wit and willingness to share your wealth of knowledge and experience. Hats off to you and the brilliant crew you have on set with you… congrats all round. Can’t wait to join in tomorrow. Clare
dang, don’t know why I typed ‘hank’… I’m just that person that is bad with names – LOL, sorry Zack!!
I’m now watching 2nd day rewatch of your Lighting workshop at Creative Live. I just want to thank you so very much for your top quality teaching! It is helping me to understand studio classes I got some weeks ago at my photography school. Not only that… I’m learning so much more! You are an excellent educator! Thank you!!
Zack, you’re taking me on a journey. I had to give up photog school due to disability. I don’t know if I will be able to return. But I am able to watch your tuts from my laptop, from my bed, all day long. And I re-watched the Kelby video. And it gave me hope. Sounds corny, but hey! I said it.
So I have hope one day to build a studio and make nice image. In the meantime, I can fill up a sketchbook with ideas and lighting set ups. Maybe when I can, I could make my own strip light.
THANK YOU, and I really appreciate how much you value your family.
Kati
Thank you so much for teaching this class; there is no better way to learn than to watch one of the pros doing what they do best! You truly are a pro, and I don’t think anyone else could teach better than you. Go Zack!
Getting addicted to your classes! I love the way you teach.
learned a lot aout how to behave with models, what to say, how to tell them what you want, how to relax.
Huge THANKS, waiting for more here!
Thank you so much, Zack and crew.
Jet
Following this class, though u made it very late for me yesterday (it was 3:45 am until went to sleep)! Good pics btw!
Fantastic Zack – thank you!
I want to buy the broadcasts – does $79 include all of them? Also, is it possible to transfer them to my iphone? Is that easy to do?
Thanks for the awesome workshop today. learnt a lot from you today!!
And I love the last photo soooo much. The shot was so natural, and the lighting is so sweet and perfect.
Thanks again for sharing.
You’re THE man, Zack!
I’ve watched a couple of hours on Friday and Saturday and it was absolutely amazing. I’ve just pre-ordered the creativelive download!
greetings from Germany,
Ben
Very cool stuff this weekend Zack, very interesting class.
I like all the small things you’re showing and explaining. This will help beginners to start with light and flashes, and also saves money. *thumbs up*
Fine work Zack…damn fine. I ask myself what makes this/you unique and conclude your 100% willingness to totally share your years of learning “from the street” level with a healthy helping of REALITY.
I went to B&H and put the $284 Elinchrom beauty dish in my cart…and you popped in my head saying…”earn it, don’t put it on credit”…sorry B&H…it’ll have to wait!
If the Library in ancient Alexandria and the Sun had a baby, it would be Zack’s lighting class.
Spot on, my friend!
Don’t you ever sleep?
But seriously, thanks for the awesome two days so far [which I've watched twice] and I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s shoot.
I’ve also pre-ordered the download because there is way more information than I can absorb in one hit.
Fun and informative class Zack. Thanks. Appreciating the re-runs as I cant quite get to the end of the live classes GMT / past my bed-time. Looking forward to todays.
Jenny
ps Newcastle Brown is brewed just up the road from me and bottled a few miles down the road in the opposite direction – good things that come out of the North East!
Zack, let the guys from creativelive know:
@creativelive Please, on the next rewatch, tweet when it’ll start. Had to wake up at 5 am & wait 2 hours for beginning of the broadcasting. Could had check my twitter in bed on my iphone and slept 2 hours more….
Other then this, everything was just fine. I was very impressed with the results and got to learn a bunch of new stuff. Also no connection problems this time. Thanks a lot!
This is awesome thanks Zack… Total booty kickery!!!
I’m ready to bask in the awesomeness that is Zack for day 3. Thanks again.
Just wanna thank you Zack for your awesome lighting course you’re giving at CreativeLive ! Thank You !
Zack, this has been a fantastic weekend and workshop. Thank you and CreativeLive for all the work put into it. When I took your OneLight workshop in Indy in 2007 I knew I should take advantage of any opportunity I had to learn from you and this has been so generous that I’m blown away. Can’t say thanks enough!
Two thumbs up Zack.
Hell if I had 4 thumbs you would get them. It has been amazing what you have been shearing this past couple of days. Looking forward to seeing the class today!
A million thanks again.
Has anyone who pre-ordered it received an email with the download link of the day 1 rough cut yet?
I’ve been glued to the screen feeling like a sponge soaking in all these tips and trics … this has been the best workshop I’ve ever attended … thanks everyone involved and especially Zack … been an admirer of your work for a while now.
Wow!!! This initiative is awesome… Am so thankful to Zack & CreativeLive team…Am so energetic to attend the 3rd day even after my 3 sleepless nights/days.
Watched 10 hours yesterday. What a marathon. But soooo worth it. Absolutely amazing stuff. Zack, you are a fantastic instructor. The class yesterday was VERY informative/creative/hilarious and all in all just a fantastic experience. Went to bed at 5am but it was sooo worth it. Keep it up! Can’t wait for today’s class.
Szabi
Zack, nice hanging out with you virtually yesterday! A lot of the technical stuff was review for me, but it was awesome to see how you interact with your models, how you got bored of the white seamless and went for the wall… rock on! I gotta get me an apple box.
Great seminar. Thanks for sharing all of your knowledge.
@146 Ben, yep… CreativeLive emailed out the pre-order link for downloading the rough cut video from the first day. I’ve downloaded them and they look/sound awesome in HD. They’ll mix/cut the feeds for a final version in a few days. Well worth $129, much less the “pre”-order $79 as I type this…
Thanks to Zack and Creative Live for doing this. I was so busy yesterday and have a lot to do today so I am glad I got on board with the $79 purchase. This is awesome.
Rachel – $79 gets you the entire weekend and you can put them on just about any device.
Getting ready for Day 3 of this fine teaching.. Thank you so much for doing this and bringing it live. Definately learned so much thus far! 17 minutes to go.. woo-hoo!
Hi Zack! Every time I hear lighting or studio lighting, my brain shuts down and Friday night when I listened to you and watched the chat feed, I felt like I was listening to a foreign language. My first thought was that this class was not for me. I tune back in on Saturday and now I feel like I’m on my way to being bi-lingual. You are a brilliant teacher! You’ve taken a very complicated subject and presented it in a manner that even the totally clueless could understand. I do so appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to present this class to us through the CreativeLive world wide class room. I would certainly recommend this class and any other class of yours to any one and every one! Many thanks & many hugs, Julie aka Glitter
It’s been a great. I watched Creativelive on 3 locations so far this weekend.

Zack – Thank you so much for doing this and for it being free. The information I’ve learned is indispensable. I really enjoyed the whole weekend. I’ve always been a big fan.
Keep rockin’!
Thank you for the reply Zack – bet you’re ready for that beer…!!!
thanks for doing the class. it is awesome, i have enjoyed every minute and learned so very much. btw….when i tried to add your rss feed to my homepage, zoloft add comes up, might want to check, think you’ve been hacked.
Hey Zack, awesome weekend’s training … I can’t think of anything clever to say other than – Thank You and your crew. My 6 week old sat thru most of it with me while the wife got some overdue sleep.
Do you have any plans to confirm your tentative UK onelight workshop dates later this year? I stalk the site on a daily basis checking for updates!
Awesome!!!! Thanks so much Zack, $79 and I can catch up on anything I missed. Hard to tune in for an extended time with the kiddies
My hubby, who has absolutely no interest in cameras, says your a great instructor, clear and to the point.
Hi Zack! Thanks a lot for this weekend. It has been (and is) great! I would love for you to share with us the lightning setup you used here, for example: http://www.zarias.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/gabby02_192.jpg
Thank you Zack, thank you so very much. You’re the real deal.
Hope you make it out to Hawaii someday soon, aight! Aloha!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Watched it from Melbourne. Thanks!
Zack,
I had a big family weekend planned this weekend so most of the workshop I missed. However, I did do a pre-purchase so I look forward to catching the entire workshop. One thing I would love to see you blog about is your concept in marketing for this past event. I do believe that you marketed the event better than many photo events I have seen done on the web. I would be interested to hear what your thoughts were and how you planned that marketing strategy. Great job!
Zack, Meghan, Hawke Danger and the CreativeLIVE crew,
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
This was an absolutely stunning seminar. I am still working through in my head the first two hours from Friday.
I got in on the $79.00 deal because I know I am going to need to watch this over and over again.
Again, thanks for the work that all of you do. You are all an inspiration.

Watched every bit of it this weekend. Wow!
anyone know what paper was used to create the background in the wolf shots?
Zack – thank you and the entire crew that helped make this weekend possible. The quality of the live streaming was incredible! I watched all three days and ordered the download. Thanks again.
Excellent!!! The best photography/lighting course.
Dude, you rock. Now I “have” to book a studio and try it – I’m inspired!
Thanks a million to everyone involved in this wonderful idea. I can’t even afford 79 bucks at the moment, but when I can, I will be sure to show you guys some love.
Z is a superb teacher, a big personality yet completely free of ego and BS. Really knows his trade inside-out. Chase also, these guys are a real inspiration to many people. Meg’s music was a total surprise too – beautiful stuff. Thanks again everyone, you did something really unusual and cool as hell this weekend!
Grace, integrity, humor, humility. The photographs are amazing [!], but they’re kept in perspective. Family, integrity, financial security, safety and treating people right all come before photography.
OK, that family priority thing didn’t work out so well for many of us this weekend.
You know when you take a photograph that you can’t wait to show everyone: the person, their parents, spouse, friends and even people who don’t know them because it will be so cherished? that you’ve just given a gift that goes beyond any financial considerations? You do that with photography, teaching and life.
Many, many thanks.
Zack, Thank you VERY much.
Once again, thanks a lot Zack, been nodding my head in agreement and also learning extra tips and tricks along the way. Been affirming and inspirational over the past weekend.
Give me a shout if you’re in Liverpool, UK one day, Ill shout you a Newcy Brown
HUGE thanks for the weekend Zack!
I loved all parts of the workshop.
The best part of the whole weekend at which I have learnt the most as a photographer was the last shoot of the crews!
Thank you again!
Michal
Thanks so much for a great class.. I was super inspired and super discouraged all at the same time..if that’s possible
I’m primarily a concert photographer but would love to try out some of the shooting on white you did..really inspired me… but is this actually possible to do in a much smaller space like a small bedroom? I didn’t get to see every moment of the class.. so maybe you answered this.. or could you point to to a resource to read-up on it.. I don’t mind doing my own leg work if I know where to start.
Thanks for sharing so much of yourself over these past 3 days!
Zack, you are truly amazing. Thank you so much for your time and passion. I tuned in all weekend and enjoyed every second of it. I hope to attend one of your workshops in the future and meet you in person!!
one more thing:) when you spoke about what it was like for you 7 years ago. and having to choose between a new car and a studio, it felt like you were talking about my life! It gave me a lot of hope and inspiration that if I give it all I’ve got I can make this dream a reality. sounds cheezy, but I’m speaking from the heart. The fact that you took the time to talk to the undergdogs and the people like me starting out with one hot shoe and one softbox, meant a lot to me. most big time photogs are snobs. flat out. you proved to me that I can have a “sucksessful”:) business with the gear I’ve got if I use it right!! I’ve interned under another photog in the past and never learned about “feathering” my light. some people might have been bored at times, but for peeps like me that still have so much to learn it was incredibly helpful. and even though I didn’t win any of the free gear giveaways from twitter, I still feel like a winner:) awwww:) hahaha! thank you. thank you. thank you!!!!!
Zack, Just wanted to send you a quick note to say thanks for a great weekend show.
ok, I lied. one more thing. Meg, you are AMAZING. really enjoyed listening to you during yesterday’s breaks. you have a beautiful voice.
Dr. Z – That was such a “ridiculous” learning experience, I just cant thank you enough. I’m waiting until the price goes up to purchase so Dr. Z get’s a little extra love.
By the way, that was the first weekend in a long time that I sat on my ass all weekend – much needed down time.
Now to catch up on the yard work!
Thanks for the awesome excuse to stop editing and going through my regular daily stock photography workflow for an average Monday – I was able to get most of day 3 in the replay here on the east coast this morning, and combined it with the end that I caught last night. So mad that I missed the other 2 days from being on vacation, but catching day 3 was a nice ease back into “work world” after a break
Powerful Zack, really a great workshop. Will pass your name on to a friend who does creative work for bands in Nashville. Much further success to you.
Thanks, Zack. Your class was awesome. I didn’t get to watch all of it, but what I saw was very helpful. Best wishes.
Just wanted to say thanks for a great workshop, why my wife didn’t enjoy the idea of me sitting in front of my computer for 20+ hours Friday-Sunday it was well worth it.
I thought you talk about gear on the first day was one of the best parts about it. It was refreshing to see a pro-level photographer and someone who’s work I really respect shooting with Alien Bees strobes. Why although I enjoy reading and watching the work shops that the likes of Scott Kelby and Joe McNally put on, I always gulp when I start adding up the cost of the gear they are using. It gave me new respect for the product that Alien Bees make after hearing over and over that the light that they produce sucks. So thank you for letting me see that serious photographer can do great work with Alien Bees.
AMAZING WORK…
Thanks to everyone for this great class…
Loved watching the interaction with band members.
Brilliant.
I’ve pre-ordered the courses and downloaded part 1 & 2 of day 1
(rough cuts) so far.
Unfortunately audio and video are not in sync. Is this going to be fixed for the final edits?
incredible classes, watched them all from down here (Brazil) and despite some minor glitches thanks to a slow internet, i got to see the most incredible workshop ever. Thanks for all the tips, and you are a terrific teacher.
Fantastic job. congratulations to everyone involved.
Looking forward to the fish tank shots! That was just fantastic!
Thank you for sharing Meghan’s music, it was awesome, she has a fantastic voice.
And thank you for sharing your knowledge and taking your whole studio staff in Seattle.
Oh yes, where can I find Megan’s music? She is awesome!!
Thanks for the workshop, Zack
It was a pleasure to follow you via internet deep into night (about 3 to 5 o´clock in the morning)
Greetings from Germany
Best workshop, greatest teacher! thanks a lot, Zack.
Where can I purchase the seminar DVDs, and where can we get Megans music from?
Great job Zack .. Enjoyed it as expected and more !

THANK YOU x10000!!! I felt like you were speaking to ME specifically because you answered most of my questions
I can’t wait to set up my white seamless in my studio and get started! I did do a child with a pink background and with your info it helped me NAIL my lighting!!! THANK YOU!
Thank you for such an incredible amount of teaching material to trawl through. I purchased the download and still haven’t made it through half of it yet but I love the ‘view at your leisure in your own time’ way of doing things.
Please post a tutorial on the color checker passport whenever you get a chance. I think that might solve some of my problems.
Cheers
Hey Zack ~ Thanks so much for the G*R*E*A*T 5*seminar! I purchased the downloads and I am still digesting day two. (And I am most pleasantly surprised to see what you did with the paneled wall and other props and backgrounds – from the sneak peak here on your blog)… You have given me a new perspective and a lot to think about and experiment with. I’ve given you a plug on my blog: http://www.sketchingeveryday.com. David Ingersoll said I should send you a link to it as I just did an exercise where I had to draw a person from memory and since I’ve been spending a good amount of time watching your videos, I drew you. I’m just loving the “Zarias” sessions! What a wealth of information you have provided here. Super job . . . REALLY THANKS AGAIN!!
Hey Just Curious, how tall are you?
Tommy – Nine feet tall. Minus three and a half feet plus an inch.
OK, so this comment is so late it’s ridiculous.
Yikes!
I have almost finished with the setup I’m trying to get, and I’m left with a couple questions.
1)Why do I need wireless transmitters if I set up my lights as slaves? What is the drawback of just going that route?
2)Why didn’t you tell us about the whole “Paul C Buff is boycotting everyone who is boycotting Arizona” thing? That’s kind of a political minefield that I would have liked to know about before I bought.
Stefanie – You can set the other flashes to slaves. That’s not a problem at all.
About the boycotting Arizona thing… I’m not sure what you’re talking about.
Cheers,
Zack
Right now I am setting the other flashes to slaves, but there must be some sort of benefit for using the wireless system (pocketwizards, etc), otherwise, there’s be no need for them. I’m trying to figure out what the benefit is over just using slaves? Does it let you decrease the shutter speed even more so that you don’t get that curtain on 1/320?
Zack, don’t approve this one for posting. I tried to find your email address but could only find company stuffs.
Anyway, the boycotting the boycotters thing is posted on the alien bees forum. Paul is mad that organizations are boycotting arizona because he is very very very much against illegal aliens. No pun intended. He thinks that Arizona should form it’s own nation-state. He’s very committed to this opinion, and has stopped selling to various entities, and has threatened to stop selling to the whole state of California.
Anyway, it’s all on his website. Cheers!
Damn. The link for your “list of gear” now takes you to a listing of the entire creative live course catalog. Any chance of getting that gear list posted elsewhere? Thanks!
