I’ll be honest. I used to hate Houston. I spent a good bit of time there when I lived in Texas and I never liked the city. Thanks to the amazing hosting talents of Janelle Lynn, I now love Houston! We had an amazing time there. Thanks for bringing the workshop out there. We also had some amazing photographers come out to be our subjects. Thanks Abel and Lisa!

You’ll find some more side by side examples of images comparing the available light and the lit shots. As I stated in an earlier post, this isn’t to show that the lit shots are “better” than available light images. You will see the difference though and off camera lighting (for me at least) is about having different options. There are quite a few more after the jump. I was quite inspired by the location we had to use! Houston has been redeemed!

Fred Egan was a bit tired from flying to Houston straight from WPPI. It is a long workshop.

I usually forget to take a group photo because I’m so focused on everything else. If you come to a workshop REMIND me to take the group shot! Here’s our Vanity Fair cover shot.

Cheers,
Zack
that’s gotta be the best set of onelight workshop photos!

Awesome Stuff My Friend!
Lisa and I had a great time at the workshop an it was a pleasure meeting everyone.
boone. I have talked to Zack about going to PDX and from what I understand he would be more than happy…(dont quote me) he said find a host!!!
someone will host it!
So glad to hear that Houston has been redeemed!!! Hopefully that means you will return here someday. Sorry I didn’t make it back from WPPI in time for the welcome party.
Why do they all look so stern in the group photo? That makes me giggle. Also, I wondered if that was Lisa in the shots I had seen around – she is an awesome model in a pinch!
Fantastic work as always, and I hope you’ll visit us again!
Hey Christine!
We were going for that sullen Vanity Fair cover photo sort of look!
Cheers,
Zack
Typically you are shooting with the light high above the head correct? I am getting ready to start putting into practice what we learned in Austin!
Hey Jared! I don’t put it so high that the eye sockets get too dark. High enough though to drop a shadow under the chin.
Cheers,
Zack
This workshop restored all faith in workshops for me. Zack you are truly the photographic equivalent of a one-man band.
Oh, as for the stern look in the group photo… It’s called “half past midnight and sheer exhaustion.”
Not stern, just pooped!
You should come to Vancouver, Canada – I can hook you up with the same folks that brin Joe McNally out here
How in the world did I just stumble upon this post??? Me sleeping…it’s not because was bored. Drugged? Maybe.
I love the images. It is amazing what one light can do!
YOU ARE A GOD!!!!!!
